Open Letter to Mamata Banerjee on compensation to CAA protestors

Dear Didi,

As per reports published in different news papers, you have announced ₹5 lakhs compensation for families of those killed during protests (?) against the CAA in Mangaluru. It means tax payers' money from WB will be given away to Jaleel Kudroli and Nausheen Bengre and that too when the concerned state govt has already announced a CID as well as Magisterial inquiry into the violence.

Even if I don't go into the merit of your decision of offering compensation to people of other states on law and order issue in line
with the spirit of the federal structure of India, will you be kind enough to explain what was the hurry in announcing the same while the inquiry report was not yet out? What prompted you to jump into the internal affairs of another state especially after denying central assistance to help your admin in tackling law & order situation in the state of WB which witnessed absolute anarchy through rampaging of public properties in the excuse of protests against the CAA by jihadists all across the state?

If your decision was on humanitarian ground, why don't you explain your lack of humility towards the people of your own state? I don't think you are unaware of names like Rohit Tanti of Kharagpur, Indrajit Dutta of Burbhum, Guruprasad Biswas of Shantipur or for that matter Toton Das of Raiganj, who were citizens of your own ruled state, yet you never came out with a compensation package for them. Why Didi, what was their fault? Was it their Hindu identity that deprived them of compensation on 'humanitarian ground'?

You could offer ₹2 lakhs compensation to those died consuming hooch but never offered anything to Hindus died due to failure of your administration. Once the family of Uri martyr, Gangadhar Dolui, didn’t worth more than ₹2 lakhs to you, what made Jaleel & Nausheen worth ₹5 lakhs?
Is it their religious identity or your desperate effort to catch headlines in the national media?

I am a resident of your state and sending this open letter to you in disgust after witnessing your continuous discriminatory treatment based on religious identity. You are free to have your own political agenda but we, the people of West Bengal, are not supposed to be taken for a ride for fulfillment of your personal ambitions. Being a well wisher of you, I would like to let you know that the CAA is a relief for Hindu, especially, Bengali migrants and your opposition to the bill, only for the sake of Muslim appeasement, is not being taken well by Bengali of different sections.

In view of the above, I, once again, request you to reconsider your stand on the CAA and stop encouraging forces opposing the bill vis-a-vis Bengali migrants for their own vested interests. Being the head of a Bengali dominated state, I believe, its your responsibility to take care of the interests of Bengalis rather than opposing that due to political differences.

Thanks and regards,

Prasun Maitra
