On 17th March, 2020 at around 2200 hours, Aatmadeep was contacted seeking legal aid for a girl in distress. On enquiry, we came to know that the girl had been threatened with abduction, rape & acid attack by Tanveed Hussain and Arshad Khan for her Facebook post dated 1st of March, 2020.
The girl was courageous enough to lodge complaints
against the accused at Jadavpur Police Station; Cyber Police Station at Lalbazar and based on her complaints, 2 accused were said to be immediately arrested by Kolkata Police and kept in custody before they got out on bail on 16th March, 2020.
The girl, reportedly, received a call from the Cyber Police Station in the evening of 17th March and she was asked to make her deposition before the 9th Metropolitan Magistrate at Bankshal Court
on 18th March at 1230 hours. Unaware of the legal complications and procedures, with sick parent, the girl felt somehow clueless regarding her action and contacted us through her a friend in Facebook. On late night of 17th March, we contacted with the girl and assured her legal assistance.
On 18th March, our team from comprising Sh. Krishanu Mitra, Sh. Rajiv K Singh, Sh. Gautam De and Sh. Prasun Maitra reached Lalbazar. Once she came with her ailing mother, she was made aware of her legal rights and then escorted her to the court where she made her deposition.
On return, our team discussed the case with the Md. Nurul Absar, Officer in Charge of the Cyber Police Station and we were assured that police will strictly pursue the case as per law of the land to ensure that the justice is served to the victim.
